Das Projekt MEET ME AT MY P(L)ACE entwickelt ein Bühnenstück weiter, das den Clubtanzstil 'Waacking' neu interpretiert. Entstanden in queeren Underground-Clubs der 1970er in Los Angeles, steht Waacking für Akzeptanz, Vielfalt und Selbstentfaltung. In Linz verbindet eine diverse Community Menschen unterschiedlicher Herkunft. Als Social Dance überträgt das Stück Codes wie Call-and-Response, Lead and Follow und Cypher auf die Bühne, fördert Austausch, baut Hierarchien ab und stärkt den interkulturellen Dialog.

Club Dance Collective
Das Club Dance Collective besteht seit fünf Jahren aus Tänzer*innen aus Linz, die ihre Liebe für House & Disco Musik, und die Tänze rund um diese Genres, teilen. Integraler Bestandteil ist dabei die lokale Waacking Community, eine organisch gewachsene Gemeinschaft, die von der Diversität ihrer Mitglieder lebt. Tänzer*innen im Alter von 19 bis 65 begegnen sich in den Kursen, tauschen sich bei Jams aus, bereisen internationale Events und organisieren gemeinsam Veranstaltungen. Im Vordergrund steht das Anliegen, auf den Reichtum dieser Kulturen aufmerksam zu machen.

In den 90ern – dem Jahrzehnt der CDs – aufgewachsen, begann für Klara aka korli die Liebe zur Musik mit der elterlichen CD-Sammlung. Statt Vinylstores wurden LIBROs leergekauft und in Ermangelung von Alternativen 30 Sekunden Snippets von den ersten Musikseiten im Internet heruntergeladen. Die CDs sind verschwunden, die Liebe zur Musik und die Datengröße der heruntergeladenen Musik sind größer geworden. Ihre Sets schlagen eine Brücke von House über Hip Hop zu R’n’B und manchmal wartet am Ende dieser Brücke auch noch eine Hommage an das Jahrzehnt der CDs.

MEET ME AT MY P(L)ACE develops a stage piece that reinterprets waacking, a club dance style originating in queer underground clubs in 1970s Los Angeles. Rooted in values of acceptance, diversity, and self-expression, the project translates social dance practices into a theatrical context. Drawing on a diverse waacking community in Linz, it brings club culture codes such as call-and-response and cypher to the stage, fostering exchange, challenging hierarchies, and strengthening intercultural dialogue.

The Club Dance Collective has existed for five years and consists of dancers from Linz who share a love for house and disco music and the dances rooted in these genres. An integral part of the collective is the local waacking community. It is an organically grown community that thrives on the diversity of its members. Dancers aged 19 to 65 meet in classes, exchange ideas at jams, travel to international events, and organize events together. At its core, the collective aims to draw attention to the richness of these cultures.

Growing up in the 90s – the decade of CDs – Klara, aka korli, first fell in love with music through her parents’ CD collection. Instead of vinyl stores, LIBRO shops were raided, and in the absence of alternatives, 30-second snippets downloaded from the very first music websites on the internet. The CDs have disappeared, but the love of music – and the size of the downloaded music files – has only grown. Her sets build a bridge from house to hip hop to R’n’B, and sometimes, at the end of that bridge, there’s a tribute to the decade of CDs waiting.
